Cockatiels, the perfect pets
This website describes my daily life with my cockatiel named Kósmos and how I love him. Cockatiels are small and attractive parrots part of the cockatoo family. They probably make the best pets for the family because they are very friendly and have a gentle nature. Also, cockatiels can be left alone for long hours and are not very noisy.
Cockatiel Care
Cockatiels are not demanding because they can be left alone for hours without complaining even though I recommend you give them attention at least twice a day or they could become less affectionate.
Cockatiel Nutrition
They can eat about any seed mix and they need a good vitamin supplement. Vegetables such as carrot tops, spinach, celery, millet and fruits such as apples, bananas, and oranges promote a healthy life for your cockatiel. Finally, always provide fresh water to your cockatiel.
Cockatiel Cage
Cockatiels love their cages to be big. It must be wide enough for the cockatiel to spread its wing. It is also important that the cage is made of metal and not wood. Make sure that the cage has many perches so they can climb and go wherever they want. I recommend you have two bowls, one for water and one for seeds and you put them far apart since cockatiels can make a mess when they eat and you don’t want seeds in the water. Cockatiel Names
I called mine Kósmos (Greek for cosmos) because it means beauty. Words like cosmetics come from the Greek kósmos. When you choose a name for your bird, you can look at lists of name and pick one that inspires you or simply pick one from your imagination but most of all it should be a sweet name that can be easily said by your cockatiel. You’ll see that they learn it very fast and you’ll want it to be nice when they will say it all the time.

When you’ve decided a cockatiel will be your next pet, you have to find a good breeder to buy it from. When looking for a breeder, choose one that hand-feeds them and has lot of experience in cockatiel breeding. Don’t be scare to go visit few times and look at the birds before buying it.
